Step 1 Boiling

Boil a large pot of salted water and add spaghetti to it. Stir occasionally until cooked through and firm to bite.

Step 2 Toast garlic until golden brown in colour

Combine garlic and extra virgin olive oil in a cold pan. Cook this over medium heat to slowly toast the garlic until it is golden brown, and then remove garlic from heat.

Step 3 Add half-cooked spaghetti along with spices

In the same oil, add spaghetti, chilli flakes, ground black pepper and salt to taste. This should be followed by adding garlic (leave some for garnishing) parsley and half of the parmesan cheese. Stir until combined.

Step 4 Garnish with parmesan cheese and serve hot

Serve the spaghetti garnished with the remaining parmesan cheese, garlic and parsley
